Sage Agathiyar is considered the guru of all Siddhars, and the Siddha medicine system is believed to have been handed over to him by Lord Muruga, son of the Hindu God Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.Siddhars are the followers of Lord Shiva. Agathiyar is the first Siddhar. He is also known as Kumbamuni and Gurumuni.

சிலம்பொலி போல் பாடுகின்ற சித்தன் தன்னை

வேலுண்டு துணை வருங்கால் வெற்றி யுண்டாம்
அஞ்சாதீர் என்று யுக யுகத்தும் தோன்றும்
அகத்தியனை அருட்குருவை அகத்துள் வைப்போம்
